Today and tomorrow, 19-20 September, EU energy policy-makers and stakeholders will come together in the Tallinn Cultural Hub (Kultuurikatel) to thoroughly discuss the topic of the new structure of the electricity market. On 19 September the future of the electricity market will be discussed during a conference while the ministers continue with the informal energy ministers meeting on 20 September. As part of these events, the Tallinn e-energy declaration was signed with the aim of digitising the energy market further.
Energy Commissioner Miguel Arias Cañete and Member of the European Parliament Krišjānis Kariņš will present their views on the progress on the Clean Energy Package and point out the necessary steps for the future.
Today, 19 September, the Tallinn e-Energy declaration has been signed within the framework of the high-level conference on electricity markets, taking place a day before the informal meeting of energy ministers. The signatories aim to enhance cooperation between the public sector and companies to make sure consumers can find the best prices and service providers via smart digital solutions.
“Building a secure energy sector of the future requires broad cooperation among all stakeholders,” said Kadri Simson, Minister for Economic Affairs and Infrastructure, adding that the greatest ideas occur when the two sectors meet, and that the follow-up to the signing ceremony is all about exploring the ‘no man’s land’ between digital and energy.
“Eventually the solutions created for consumers have to be smart and simple enough to create interest in their consumption habits, and energy efficiency for the consumers themselves,” said Ando Leppiman, Deputy Secretary General for Energy. The high-level conference on electricity markets, that takes place today, 19 September, follows yesterday’s event on energy and digitalisation, where the Estonian TSO Elering launched their smart grid client portal: E-elering.
Minister Simson and Commissioner Arias Cañete signed the declaration before the opening of the conference on 19 September.
